Bucher's story goes back to 1807, when the founder operated the forge in Murzeln in Niederweningen. The motorised machines came much later. The first single-axle motor mower, the Rekord, was launched in 1945, and the walking tractor KT 10 entered production in 1950. Standard four-wheel Bucher tractors followed in 1954, with 5,000 delivered by 1964.
The single-axle machines were the long runners. By 2003, Bucher Landtechnik says, 116,000 single-axle motor machines had been delivered. At group level, Bucher Holding AG became Bucher Industries AG in 2000. Today Bucher Landtechnik AG, the Swiss farm-machinery business of the group, sells other makers' machines, among them New Holland, Case IH, Steyr, Deutz-Fahr, Kuhn, Merlo and Weidemann.
For a buyer, that makes a Bucher walking machine such as the K3 a used-market purchase. Judge it on condition and on the implements that come with it, and line up a source of spare parts before you pay, because the Swiss business that carries the name now sells other brands.
